Lucy and Raymond

Back in 1993 I attended Braunston Boat Show near Daventry.

There I took a picture of the Samuel Barlow narrowboat Lucy.

Fast forward to 2011 and I thought I'd Google Lucy to see what her current state was and it saddened me to learn that she had deteriorated over the years and had eventually sunk not far from Braunston.

However all was not lost and she was refloated, taken out of the water and now sits beside the canal at the start of her restoration... she even has her own website.

Another of the ex-Barlow boats at Braunston in 1993 was Raymond who has the title of the last wooden boat built for canal carrying.  Raymond had been lived on at Braunston ever since it finished carrying but by 1993 was in need of serious work.

Raymond was moved from Braunston for the first time in 23 years and taken to Runcorn for restoration.  Money didn't come and Raymond sank only to be raised and moved to the Black Country Museum only to sink several more times before reaching a stage where more moving would be the end of the boat.  Raymond was measured and the dismantled before being rebuilt.

Raymond also has its own website.

Well here we are again...

A new look, old rubbish deleted and a new enthusiasm for actually doing something with this blog this year!

So, before my first new post, a local picture just to get things started again.
