Canal Holiday October 1991 Oxford and Grand Union Canals - Day 8: Aynho to Aynho Wharf

Saturday 26th October 1991

Start: Below Aynho Bridge
End: Aynho Wharf

The customary short hop back to the hire base on the final day.

The same day I purchased my first Windlass.  I'd gone to the boatyard shop and bought a brand new one when the guy behind the counter asked if I actually wanted the one I'd been using on my holiday?   Therefore I swapped my shiny new one for the slightly worn one on the hire boat which has been we me on every canal trip thereafter, finally being retired in 2014.

Friday 25th October 1991

All I have in the log is Aynho - Heyford - Aynho so we obviously winded somewhere in the Heyford area but I can't be certain where.

Canal Holiday October 1991 Oxford and Grand Union Canals - Day 6: Cropredy to Aynho

Thursday 24th October 1991

Start: Cropredy
End: Aynho

6 Locks

The only thing I remember about mooring at Aynho is a large faded 'British Waterways blue' sign on the towpath which read "Oxford Canal".  This wasn't for the benefit of boaters, more passengers on the railway line opposite.

Canal Holiday October 1991 Oxford and Grand Union Canals - Day 4: Braunston to Napton via Norton Junction

22nd October 1991

Start: Braunston
End: Below Napton Locks

12 Locks

We left our mooring and went up Braunston Locks and through Braunston Tunnel to Norton Junction where the Leicester section of the Grand Union Canal leaves the main line.  We turned here and retraced our steps back through the tunnel and along the Oxford Canal mooring up below the Napton flight of locks.

Canal Holiday October 1991 Oxford and Grand Union Canals - Day 3: Fenny Compton to Braunston

Monday 21st October 1991

Start: Fenny Compton
End: Braunston

The only things I can recall from this day is that we had to stop at Napton Narrowboats to re-tie a boat which had come loose from its moorings and that we moored up ourselves on the Braunston Turn side of the A45 road bridge, almost opposite the pub which is now called The Boathouse which I believe was then known as The Mill House.
